Vietnam Economic Growth 2016-2025: A Decade of Economic Transformation

According to data compiled by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (SCCV) from sources including the World Bank, Vietnam Customs, FIA Vietnam, GSO, MAUR, and the Google-Temasek-Bain e-Conomy SEA report, Vietnam underwent a comprehensive economic transformation between 2016 and 2025:

  • Gross Domestic Product (GDP): Expanded from USD 205 billion in 2016 to USD 476 billion in 2025.
  • Merchandise Exports: Scaled from USD 176.6 billion to USD 405.5 billion over the ten-year period.
  • Disbursed FDI (Realized Investment): Increased from USD 15.8 billion in 2016 to USD 25.4 billion in 2025.
  • Manufacturing Transformation: Shifted from traditional, low-cost manufacturing sectors (textiles, footwear, and furniture) toward higher-value, technology-driven production (electronics, machinery, and high-tech manufacturing).
  • Urban Infrastructure: Transitioned from having no operational urban metro network in 2016 to bringing Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 into commercial operation.
  • Digital Economy: Evolved from an emerging digital ecosystem into one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing digital economies.
