Vietnam 2016–2025: A Decade of Economic Growth and Transformation

Vietnam economic growth from 2016 to 2025 brought major changes to the country. Over this decade, GDP more than doubled, goods exports increased strongly and realized foreign direct investment continued to grow.

Vietnam’s manufacturing sector also changed. Traditional industries such as textiles, footwear and furniture remained important, while electronics, machinery and high-tech manufacturing became more visible by 2025.

Urban infrastructure and the digital economy also developed during this period.

 

GDP GREW FROM USD 205 BILLION TO USD 476 BILLION

According to the infographic, Vietnam’s GDP at current prices was around USD 205 billion in 2016.

By 2025, GDP had increased to around USD 476 billion.

This means the size of the economy grew to more than 2.3 times its 2016 level over the decade.

 

GOODS EXPORTS REACHED USD 405.5 BILLION

Vietnam’s goods exports also increased strongly.

In 2016, goods exports were around USD 176.6 billion. By 2025, the figure had increased to USD 405.5 billion.

This was also around 2.3 times the 2016 level.

 

REALIZED FDI INCREASED TO USD 25.4 BILLION

Foreign direct investment continued to be an important part of Vietnam’s economic development.

According to the infographic, realized FDI was USD 15.8 billion in 2016.

By 2025, it had increased to USD 25.4 billion.

This growth happened alongside the expansion of manufacturing and Vietnam’s deeper participation in international supply chains.

 

MANUFACTURING MOVED TOWARD HIGHER-VALUE INDUSTRIES

Vietnam’s manufacturing sector also changed during the decade.

In 2016, the infographic highlights textiles, footwear and furniture.

By 2025, the focus had expanded to electronics, machinery and high-tech manufacturing.

This shows a broader change in Vietnam’s manufacturing landscape toward industries with higher technology content.

 

URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE ADDED METRO SERVICES

Urban transport also reached an important milestone.

The infographic shows that there was no urban metro system in operation in 2016.

By 2025, Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 was in operation.

This marked an important change in public transport infrastructure in one of Vietnam’s largest cities.

 

THE DIGITAL ECONOMY DEVELOPED QUICKLY

In 2016, Vietnam’s digital economy was described as an emerging ecosystem.

By 2025, the infographic describes Vietnam as one of Southeast Asia’s fast-growing digital economies.

Online shopping, digital payments, technology platforms and online services became more common during this period.

 

A DECADE OF CHANGE

From 2016 to 2025, Vietnam changed across several important areas.

GDP increased from USD 205 billion to USD 476 billion. Goods exports rose from USD 176.6 billion to USD 405.5 billion, while realized FDI increased from USD 15.8 billion to USD 25.4 billion.

At the same time, manufacturing expanded toward electronics, machinery and high-tech industries. Urban metro infrastructure appeared, while the digital economy continued to develop.
