HCMC PLANS TO START CONSTRUCTION OF 3 NEW METRO LINES WORTH OVER VND 254 TRILLION
Ho Chi Minh City is preparing to develop three new metro lines with a total length of nearly 90 km and an estimated investment of more than VND 254 trillion, or about US$9.6 billion. The three lines are Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan, Tan Son Nhat – Phu Huu, and Binh Duong New City – Suoi Tien. Construction is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Once completed, these new metro lines will significantly expand HCMC’s urban railway network and improve connections between the city center, Binh Duong, Tan Son Nhat Airport, and eastern HCMC.
3 NEW METRO LINES WITH A TOTAL LENGTH OF NEARLY 90 KM
The HCMC Urban Railway Management Board is working with consultants to complete feasibility studies and procedures for the three projects before submitting them for approval.
The projects are expected to use government funding and are planned for completion by 2030.
If completed as planned, the new lines will help expand HCMC’s urban railway network to around 255 km by the end of the decade.
THU DAU MOT – TAO DAN METRO LINE TO SPAN OVER 33 KM
Thu Dau Mot – Tao Dan will be the longest of the three new lines, with a length of more than 33 km and an estimated investment of around VND 113 trillion.
The line will start near Hung Vuong Street in Binh Duong Ward and run along Pham Ngoc Thach Street, Binh Duong Boulevard, National Highway 13, and Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street before entering central HCMC.
It is expected to have 24 stations, including 13 underground stations, and a depot in Hiep Binh Phuoc.
The final station at Tao Dan Park will connect with the Ben Thanh – Tham Luong metro line, also known as Metro Line No. 2. This will create an important urban railway connection between Binh Duong and central HCMC.

TAN SON NHAT – PHU HUU METRO TO CONNECT THE AIRPORT
The second project is the first phase of Metro Line No. 6, connecting Tan Son Nhat with Phu Huu.
The line will be around 23 km long, with an estimated investment of VND 86 trillion. It is expected to have 17 stations, including 13 underground and four elevated stations, with a depot in Binh Trieu.
A key feature is that the line will pass through Tan Son Nhat Airport with two underground stations before continuing toward eastern HCMC.
When connected with the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway, the line will help create a public transport corridor between Tan Son Nhat Airport and Long Thanh Airport.
BINH DUONG NEW CITY – SUOI TIEN METRO TO SPAN NEARLY 31 KM
The third line will connect Binh Duong New City with Suoi Tien. It will be nearly 31 km long with an estimated investment of around VND 55 trillion.
The line will start near A1 Roundabout in Binh Duong Ward and pass through Phu Loi, Thuan Giao, An Phu, Tan Dong Hiep, Di An, and Dong Hoa.
The first phase is expected to have 17 stations.
In the Dong Hoa – Tan Van area, the line will connect with the existing metro network and railway lines toward Dong Nai and Long Thanh Airport.
The project will provide another public transport connection between Binh Duong and eastern HCMC.

HCMC AIMS FOR A 255-KM METRO NETWORK BY 2030
HCMC currently operates nearly 20 km of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line. The city aims to expand its urban railway network to around 255 km by 2030.
Since the beginning of 2026, the city has also started construction or held groundbreaking ceremonies for several railway projects, including Ben Thanh – Tham Luong, Ben Thanh – Thu Thiem, and Ben Thanh – Can Gio.
HCMC is also moving forward with the Thu Thiem – Long Thanh railway and the Tham Luong – An Ha – Northwest Urban Area section of Metro Line No. 2.
As these projects develop, the urban railway network will gradually improve connections between central HCMC, the eastern and northwestern areas, Binh Duong, and major transport hubs.
